Gunpla Battle: Near Miss
Hajime Model Studio
Gundam Build Fighters is the first series I was able to fully enjoy with my daughter as her introduction to the Gundam Franchise. And form there we watched other shows like Witch from Mercury and Gundam Seed, but Build fighters holds a special place in my heart and with a piece of fan art I saw on the internet, became the inspiration for my entry.
The Build Series is the only place in the Gundam Franchise where it is canon to have different mobile suits from across the different universes, timelines, come together to do battle, and with the emphasis on customization, is the perfect setting for GBWC. Every battle needs a good guy and a bad guy, and the fan art I saw is Suletta Mercury with her mother's face helmet dressed in red, obviously evoking Char Aznable. And for our protagonist, there is no other choice except Fumina Hoshino from Team Try Fighters. For their respective Gunplas, Suletta definitely needs to pilot the Gundam Aerial, but in standard form is too scrawny and sexy to be a Zeon MS. So I had to bulk up the Aerial with the fattest of all Zeon suits, the Dom and other parts. And this heavily modified MS, I call the Gundam Areial Yokozuna.
Fumina's first appearance in Build Fighters Try saw her using a Powered GM mobile suit, and since I dressed her up to look like a super hero, it's only fitting that she uses the tallest grunt MS, the Jegan. Just like the Aerial, the Jegan is thin and scrawny in standard form, so additional armor parts add needed bulk, plus the Sinanju Stein's massive beam rifle that's used to shoot the enemy from high above aboard a Base Jabber, completing the Jegan Ultima Preator.
The setting for this battle would be Field 07 Ruins. I crafted the ruins with XPS foam with each brick individually cut by hand. The arena was made with acrylic sheets with a hidden power supply to light up the Plasvky Particle background. And as a final cute touch, I added the cows from the Turn A Gundam, as they run for cover from the battle above them.
