The Ambush

Jason Azcona

'The Ambush' shows a special forces mobile suit pulling a 'grunt' GM from an ambush. The GM has had its legs blown off and the GM Sniper is desperately attempting to drag him out of harm's way. I wanted to show the first seconds of the action and contrast the difference between the two units. To represent the elite special forces mobile suit, the GM Sniper II is heavily customised with: Scratch built NVG visor, made from plasticard + parts from MS Sight Lens and a MG Gouf custom kit. Custom Front and rear waist armour, adapted from a HG Demi Trainer. Custom Elbow guards from a Demi Trainer Heavily customised legs, with rocket guard removal and panel remodelling. Customised ankle suspension, removal of guards and custom Demi Trainer ankle guards. Removal of stock exhaust and replacement with slimmer Gundova boosters. Front custom panel remodelling for a more elite look. Customised marksmen rifle from the original GM Sniper II kit, modified to house a flashlight. Customised bullpup with suppressor mounted on the back. Custom panel scribing Camo paint For the 'Grunt' RGM 79 (G) Scratch built NVGs, but deliberately less high tech than the GM Sniper to represent his 'grunt' status: Front panel remodelling. Custom Scribing Destruction of the legs with rebuilt internal damage, made from various modelling materials Decals from Bandai Zeta & 00 decal sets. I used modelling clay + texture paint/pigments for the base board. I textured the ground to show the drag marks and impact craters. The oil/coolant was then painted in. The house was scratch built from cardboard, toothpicks and plasticard. Cotton wool was painted for smoke, and architectural model trees were painted and added to round of the scene. I wanted the scene to look interesting from every angle including the top, so I designed it to have lots of fine detail for every view. I hope the more the viewer spends time with it the more detail they will see!
