Bondi
Tom
This work is titled Bondi. It features the RX-93 Nu Gundam surfing the powerful waves at Bondi Beach, one of the most famous and iconic beaches in Sydney. The inspiration comes from the world-renowned artwork The Great Wave off Kanagawa. The RX-93 Nu Gundam itself was fully customized. It is finished with hand-painted and airbrush techniques, including shading, highlighting, and metallic gradients to achieve depth and realism. Panel lining and weathering were applied to give the mobile suit a battle-worn appearance, emphasizing the intensity of the fight. The action pose was chosen to reflect both the spirit of surfing and the strength of the Gundam. The diorama was entirely scratch-built. The wave was sculpted from layered foam and epoxy putty, then carefully shaped to convey energy, motion, and the raw power of the ocean. It was hand-painted and airbrushed with gradient blues, white highlights, and detailed dry-brushing to replicate the foamy spray. The inclusion of mechanical textures within the water creates the impression of a living, mechanical ocean, reinforcing the theme of nature colliding with technology. This piece represents the fusion of nature, culture, and Gundam pop culture, blending them together into a striking and memorable display.
